Jamie Hixson

Jamie has lived and fished all over the USA, but most of that time was spent in the Pacific Northwest, where he honed his love of fishing and the thug life.  Growing up on the mean streets of Longview, Washington, taught him a lot about when stocker trout will eat flies and when they’ll eat Poppin’ Fresh dough.  With a short stint as a carp fanatic, eventually Jamie went on to be another steelhead junkie, slinging rabbit strips for chrome in lower Columbia tributaries, dodging angry cows near hatchery creeks, and wet wading in the winter cold.

Like many PNW industry alum’s, Jamie spent some time working on the line at G. Loomis in Woodland where he got his first look at how fishing rods are made.  After leaving G. Loomis he spent some time as an engineer for a local fabrication shop, where he furthered his design chops.  Jamie started working for Rajeff Sports in 2005, where he began working with Tim on rod design and development.  Finally able to afford waders, but not cool waders, he began his neoprene and vest era of fly angling.

Over the years, Jamie has worked on countless rod, line and reel projects, using his understanding of both production and design to be an integral piece of Echo’s success as a brand.  He’s usually the go-between for our other designers, Tim, and our factories, translating the needs of our design team at large into the the designs you see on store shelves.  And while his travels in the industry have taken him to fish all over the world, you can occasionally catch that lingering, hungry stare of his inner steelhead junkie yearning for PNW chrome.
