Great Lakes Guru
Favorite Fish: Great Lakes Steelhead
Home Water: Pere Marquette, Western MI Rivers
Jeff grew up in West Michigan with a real passion for the outdoors. After guiding in Alaska at Katmai Lodge for a number of years, he returned to Michigan to the rivers he loves. Among these, the Pere Marquette is his favorite it is where he calls home. Jeff became a full time professional guide in 1998, and fly fishing still remains a driving passion with him, especially when it comes to chasing Chrome Steelhead on the swung fly. He guides Trout, Salmon, and Steelhead on the Pere Marquette, Muskegon, and White Rivers. Jeff owns and operates Outfitters North Guide Service. When he is not on the water you can find him riding and racing Mountain Bikes and Dirtbikes or chasing Grouse and Woodcock in the fall with his bird dog’s. To him his home is just Base Camp for the endless outdoor opportunities Northern Michigan has to offer.
His technique of choice is swinging flies for Steelhead using Switch and Spey rods. Jeff’s favorite all around rod is the Echo TR 6126, a 12′ 6″ #6 weight matched with an Airflo Compact Skagit or Skagit FIST.
Jeff states ” It’s the sweetest rod I have ever thrown.” Echo just goes perfect with the Airflo assortment of lines, it’s almost as if they were meant to be together. ”
